future LearningNI developments

eGovernment Award CeremonyThroughout 2008/09 many exciting new developments will be taking place in LearningNI.  These are.

  • New improved interfaces for the LearningNI courseroom, Gateway and Discussions
  • Child friendly interface for primary pupils
  • Interactive home-page surveys to capture user feedback
  • A short orientation video to familiarise users with the  LearningNI developments
  • An online store containing  discrete ready-made courses which can be used by teachers
  • A new LearningNI library structure and interface set up to meet the needs of the new NI curriculum
  • New content from the Guardian and Observer Digital Archives, Alta Maths for Schools and some 900 locally contributed teaching and learning resources
  • New interactive Irish medium content

LearningNI is a flexible online learning environment developed for teachers and pupils.  It can support a range of pedagogical models allowing teachers to blend different models to accommodate a range of learning styles. It is being used across NI by many of the stakeholder and support organisations to support training in and delivery of the revised NI Curriculum. It provides access to a library of digital resources licensed from educational publishers and customised to the revised Northern Ireland Curriculum. It facilitates collaboration through online courses, email, discussions and video conferencing using the virtual classroom.

Becta ISP accreditation for C2k

C2k was awarded full accreditation by Becta for the quality of its schools’ internet service provision in 2009. C2k is working towards renewing the accreditation for 2010.

The Becta Internet Service Provider accreditation means that all pupils and teachers in NI's primary and secondary schools can be assured that the internet services  provided by C2k meet required guidelines.  C2k’s internet service is constantly monitored to ensure that children and teachers in NI are protected against offensive emails and web site content.
